PRETORIA STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIER CLUB OPEN SHOW

Open Show          5 February 2011            Judge:Mrs Riette Steyn

OVERALL CRITIQUE ON THE DAY

I would like to thank PSBTC for the honour of being invited to judge their

show and all the exhibitors that entered their Staffords under me.

I’ve done my critique on the good points of the first placings.  A critique

should be on the good as well as the not so good, but I don’t like to pin-

point faults on any Stafford for all to read.  Feel free to contact me

personally if you would like to know what I scribbled down about your

 Stafford.

The general appearance of the exhibits were very good - Strong heads

with pronounced cheek muscles, distinct stops and excellent teeth.

Level toplines, well sprung ribs, straight front legs and well bent stifles

were all over present.

A few of the exhibits were a bit lippy and there were 3 Staffords that

would have received a better placing if they were not overweight.  I

approached one of them and in my mind I thought ‘What a beautiful

head’ but he was so fat I could hardly feel the spring of ribs or the

muscles in his hindquarters.

What I did not like was the light and even yellow eyes that I saw on 3

male exhibits.  These solid, muscular and beautiful balanced Staffords

will surely do well under other judges, but I am very critical on eye colour

because it is the most difficult fault to try and breed out.

Thanks again – I totally enjoyed the day.
